Leaves are typically medium to dark green, glossy, with finely toothed edges. Vary in size from 1/2 inch to 6 inches, five petals to more than 30 inch, and in nearly every color.
Often the flowers are very fragrant. Most varieties grow on long canes that sometimes climb.
Every spring, the city of Ghamsar is adorned with beautiful rose flowers.This plant is called “Flower of Prophet Mohammad” in Iran because people believe it is a holy and therapeutic plant.
The people of Ghamsar then collect roses, boil them in special pots and collect their water in beautiful containers.
It is a pride for the city that each year, the most sacred place on earth, Kaaba, is washed with rose water from Ghamsar.
